Welcome back Year 4.
We all hope you have had a wonderful break. As you can see our blog has changed to reflect our new text. This half term we will be reading a text called ‘Who let the gods out’. It links to our new topic of Ancient Greece. It’s a humorous book that i’m sure you will all enjoy reading.
When you come into school check out your amazing firework pictures, they look great in the corridor. Don’t forget to keep reading at home and bring in your reading record updated when you do.
Mr Ibbotson and Mr Carr
This week in art ,we created our own firework. The techniques we used were drip, pour and splatter. The splattering went a bit wrong as it ended up all over us. In English, we have been discussing the feelings of the main character Lila. We learnt about how actions show how a character feels. Finally in Maths, we have been learning to round numbers to the nearest 10 and 100.
This week, we have learned about formal methods of subtraction and addition in maths. We wrote a set of instructions for building our fireworks. We created splat paintings, pour paintings and drip paintings in the style of Jackson Pollock.
W continued reading The Firework Makers Daughter. Also, in art we did a colour wheel showing feelings and we wrote about Jackson Pollock’s life, techniques and his art\paintings. In P.E quicksticks (hockey) was great fun and we also played on the glockenspiels in music.
What a great first week we’ve had Year 4! Well done, you’ve come back with a brilliant attitude. It was great to see the enthusiasm you all had for our new class text – The Firework Maker’s Daughter.
For any of your parents who are interested in learning about our new text check out the author Philip Pullman.
Keep up the hard work Mr Ibbotson
